Success Story
Now most of us think that the reason behind making India a global power. Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji has a hand in it, but this is not the complete truth because if anyone has played the most important role in giving recognition to India on the world stage, it is Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar ji. But friends, if you are considering Jaishankar ji as a leader then wait a bit because the most high profile ministry of the government has been handed over to him only on the basis of his ability.
That is why you would never have seen him working with any political party before. And yes, do you know that our neighboring countries Pakistan and China also respect them. But why so? We will know everything in detail in today’s Blog. Now friends, although Subramaniam Jaishankar ji’s family belonged to Tamil Nadu, he had to shift to Delhi due to work and he was born in Delhi on 9 January 1955.
Growing up, Jaishankar ji did MA, MPhil and PhD in International Relations and Nuclear Diplomacy from JNU and these degrees were very useful for him and India in the future. However, Jaishankar ji’s excellent skills were visible right from his college days, because in the student organization, he used to solve even the biggest problems in a jiffy. After completing his PhD, in 1977, Jaishankar officially started his diplomacy career by joining the Indian Foreign Service i.e. IFS.
In the first 20 years of his career, he honed his skills by working in different positions in various countries like Moscow, Sri Lanka, Budapest, Hungary and Japan under India’s Abroad Mission and now the time had come to do something big. Jaishankar ji, while working as the Ambassador of India in Washington DC from 2004 to 2007, played a big role in successfully signing the Civil Nuclear Agreement between India and the US, which was a big achievement for India. But this work was not so easy.
For this, Jaishankar ji had to roll a lot of papads. The actual thing is that at that time he strictly followed that non-professional policy i.e. the policy to control the distribution of nuclear weapons. But India conducted nuclear tests against this policy in 1974 and 1998 without signing the NPT, which was a violation of its rules. Actually Nuclear Non-Qualification Territory is an international territory whose job is to maintain peace in the world by stopping the spread of nuclear weapons.
But since India had broken their rules, the US did not want to sign a nuclear agreement with India. Apart from this, many law makers and advocates were also against this deal. However, despite so many difficulties, Dr. Jaishankar did not give up. He created such a unique strategy. The US had to agree to this deal. Actually, Jaishankar ji was working in the role of an Indian Ambassador in the US at that time and because of this role, he got the opportunity to talk to the policy makers of the US and solve their deal related problems.
Jaishankar ji said while explaining to the policy makers. After this deal, US India relations will become stronger, due to which terrorism can also be countered better. He said that India will keep the distribution of nuclear weapons to itself. And yes, Jaishankar ji also claimed that India’s energy needs are increasing rapidly day by day and India no longer wants to destroy the global environment by using fossil fuels. Therefore, if this deal is signed then global warming can also be reduced to a great extent.
And friends, after thousands of similar attempts, finally the US became ready to sign a nuclear deal in 2008. After this deal, India could buy nuclear fuel and technology from the international market. Due to which India’s dependence on fossil fuel was shifted to nuclear fuel, which was a good sign for the environment. After this big victory, he was posted in Singapore where Jaishankar ji worked as High Commissioner for the next two years.
After this, from 2009 to 2013, Jaishankar ji started working as Indian Ambassador to China and during his four-year tenure, he played many important roles in resolving India-China border issues. Friends, S Jaishankar met Gujarat CM Narendra Modi in 2012 while working in China. Actually, when Modi ji went for his visit to China, Jaishankar ji fully supported him in scheduling meetings with many important people in China. By the way, let us remind you that at this time Modi ji was not a very big global leader.
Even a few years ago, in 2005, the US had refused to grant him a visa. After spending time with S. Jaishankar, Modi ji was so influenced by his work that later on, Jaishankar ji was handed over a big ministry of the government, about which we will talk later in the Blog. Well, in these four years, Jaishankar ji had understood the secret matters of China so well that he resolved the later major Indo-China dispute very easily. For example, let us take the Doklam border issue of 2017.
Actually, in 2017, China wanted to build a road in Doklam region, but the Indian Army had stopped this construction from happening and that is because Doklam area is a trijunction area i.e. there are borders of India, Bhutan and China and once If China built a road on it, then not only would some territory of Bhutan come under China’s control, but also India’s Siliguri Corridor, which is also called the Chicken Neck of India, would always be under threat.
And friends, using Siliguri Corridor in a war with China means losing the entire North East and why would India not want to give even a single piece of its land to anyone? To solve this serious border issue, S Jaishankar first used bilateral diplomacy. Conducted, in which Jaishankar started talking with Bhutan and China officials. During this conversation itself, S Jaishankar had also promised to protect the territory of Bhutan.
Chinese officials were greatly influenced by Jaishankar’s words and a senior officer even said that Jaishankar does not talk like a diplomat but like a soldier. And friends, due to these efforts of Jaishankar, China not only pulled back its army but also stopped the road construction work in Doklam region. Here the army of the enemy country itself was seen praising Jaishankar ji’s great negotiation skills and this was a victory not only for Jaishankar ji but for the whole of India.
Well, as we know that even after keeping a dog’s tail in a straight pipe for a thousand years, it remains crooked. Similarly, like a dog’s tail, China also does not desist from its antics. China again made a violent border issue in 2020, which we know as Ladakh Border Tension. In fact, in June 2020, the Chinese Army entered Galwan Valley of Ladakh and attacked the Indian Army.
Here a violent battle took place between India and China in which many soldiers from both sides died. Jaishankar again comes forward to solve this border issue and this time Jaishankar ji talked directly to China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi to reduce the border tension and also got a joint agreement signed with China. In which it was clearly written that China will abide by all the Indo-China agreements and protocols made so far and if ever there is border tension, it will be resolved through dialogue and not through attack.
Jaishankar ji did not stop here, he also raised this issue in the international forum and international support helped in reducing this tension. And friends, it was because of these efforts of Jaishankar ji that China had pulled back its army from the LAC in 2021. Now friends, if we go back a little, in 2014, BJP wins with majority in the General Elections of India and Narendra Modi becomes the Prime Minister of India.
Now, as we told you earlier also that Dr. Jaishankar had risen in the eyes of Modi ji, that is why after becoming the Prime Minister, Modi ji sent Jaishankar to USA. Called India. After being called to India, Jaishankar was given the post of Foreign Secretary for the next two years and then considering his good work, his tenure was extended for one more year. That is, S. Jaishankar worked as the Foreign Secretary of India from 2015 to 2018 and in this three-year timeframe, he strengthened relations with powerful countries like the US, Russia and Japan and along with this did many excellent things in the interest of India.
Made policies. However, the credit for making those excellent policies did not go to her, but to the Foreign Minister of that time, because she used to come forward and market it. After his three-year Foreign Secretary role ended, Jaishankar was offered the role of President of Global Corporate Affairs by Tata Group and here too he did great work for the company. Now friends, the year 2019 has come in which general elections were to be held and this time also BJP won the elections with full majority and once again Narendra Modi was made the Prime Minister.
As soon as he won the election, Modi ji gave ticket to Dr. Jaishankar from Gujarat and made him the Foreign Minister of India. During his five-year tenure as Foreign Minister, Jaishankar made many influence policies on the basis of his merit alone, without any political background. Which changed the image of India on the world stage. The real potential of Jaishankar ji came out between 2019 and 2024 and this was the time in which the former PM of Pakistan also praised Jaishankar ji.
Now, before knowing when and why he was praised, how Jaishankar ji fully helped the Indian Government in liberating Kashmir which was in conflict for 70 years with his strategy. Let us know that. Actually, removing Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir was a big challenge for the Indian Government, because the international pressure was so high. That is why Jaishankar ji went to the super power countries of the world and made his point strong that Kashmir is India’s internal matter and they should not interfere in it.
After convening the superpower countries of the world, the Indian Government removed Article 370 and since then there has been neither any riot nor any international interference in Kashmir. Let us now talk about why and when the former PM of Pakistan praised Dr. Jaishankar. Actually it was on 24th February 2022 when Russia attacked Ukraine and this attack was not a small attack. International media says that this was the first major attack on Europe since World War II in which thousands of people lost their lives.
Seeing this behavior of Russia, US imposed many sanctions on Russia. In simple words, no country could do business with Russia and any country that did so would spoil US relations. Due to this decision of US, the price of oil in the world started touching the sky. Because Russia is the largest exporter of oil in the world. Now as you know that many things are directly and indirectly dependent on oil, hence with the increase in the price of oil, inflation also started increasing in the world and to stop this rising inflation in India, India has taken smart steps.
Raised in which Dr. Jaishankar had a big hand. For example, India chose not to take any side in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, due to which India was able to maintain its good relations with Russia and the Western World. Not only this, even when the US was passing the resolution against Russia, India did not vote, which later proved to be India’s wise diplomatic approach. Along with this, under Operation Ganga created by Jaishankar, India successfully evacuated more than 22 thousand 500 Indian citizens from Ukraine and also rescued some Pakistani students.
Apart from this, despite taking a neutral stand, India also supplied medical supplies and essential goods to Ukraine and this shows that humanity is still alive in India. Well, even after US imposed sanctions on Russia, India did not stop buying oil from Russia and then when Western countries asked India for clarification on this, then Dr. Jaishankar further explained to them that India’s youth population needs cheap oil. There is a need for oil, due to which many other things will become cheaper and inflation will remain under control in India.
And friends, after some time of this event, Jaishankar gave such an iconic statement during the media interaction which made the entire European countries smell like a snake. Friends, something like this. S Jaishankar, in his five years in the role of Foreign Minister, gave India a new identity on the world stage by making big policies and that is why today he has become India’s greatest farmer minister. That is why he has been given the same post even in the third term of Modi ji.
Now it remains to be seen what wonders S Jaishankar ji will show in future. By the way, Chanakya had said a very big thing that whenever a king wins, the entire credit goes to the king, but the real hand behind the victory lies with the king’s ministers, that is why along with the king, they should also get equal credit and respect. And friends, it is these lines that motivated me to bring the life of S. Jaishankar in front of you.
Anyway, see you again with the powerful explanation of the Success Story.
