We dive deep into how TVF (The Viral Fever) is revolutionizing the Indian entertainment industry and giving Bollywood a run for its money. With blockbuster web series like Panchayat Season 3, TVF Aspirants, and Gullak, TVF has created a niche that resonates with audiences seeking relatable and heartfelt stories.
Success Story
Panchayat, Kota factory, piggy bank or aspirants. We eagerly wait for the new seasons of all these web series. And why not because now we have started liking these low budget web series more than the high budget films of Bollywood. But how did this transformation come about? How Arunabh Kumar also worked as a waiter in a restaurant before starting the YouTube channel TVF. And yes, you will know the real life struggle of actors like Prahlad, Chacha Vinod and Bhushan. Then we will say that everything is possible in life.
So, in today’s Blog, let us know everything one by one with proper sequence. So friends, leaving the job of a research consultant in the US Air Force and starting a YouTube channel would be a crazy person who would do such a thing. But this is the story of Arunabh Kumar who was earning a good salary as a research consultant but he was not enjoying this work. Fed up with this, he quit his job and started a YouTube channel named The Viral Fever i.e. TVF. After this decision, people made fun of him a lot.
Various kinds of things were said, but today the same people do not get tired of praising him. Because TVF is one of the most successful YouTube channels and OTT platforms in the country, which has revolutionized Indian content creation. Actually, Arunabh came up with the idea of theater when he was doing engineering from IIT Kharagpur in 2001. During that time, he realized that his interest was in theater and storytelling instead of studies. Therefore he thought why not do something in this field only.
Now this was a very difficult decision for him because after doing engineering from IIT, like every parent, his parents also wanted Arora to do a good job and settle down in his life. Yes, Arora did this too, but when he started his job, he realized that he was not interested in his work at all and this was the reason why he left his job and reached Mumbai as soon as possible. Now Arora had thousands of dreams in her eyes, but in this Mayanagari, who can achieve the destination without struggle, hence the initial period was full of challenges for her too.
I went and met people who wrote letters to many production houses, but no one gave them work. After a lot of efforts, he finally got a chance to work in Shahrukh Khan’s production company Red Chillies Entertainment and here he started working as an assistant director for the Om Shanti Om movie. Arun got to learn a lot from this production house and this is also the reason why he considers this as his first school.
After working with Red Chillies for some time, he did many small jobs, but due to lack of proper work, he had to go through financial problems. There came a time when Arora, who had worked in the US Air Force, had to work as a waiter in Goa to meet his expenses. However, when the problems kept increasing and he was unable to understand anything, he started a company named TVF Media Lab in 2010 and under this company, The Viral Fever started on YouTube, which we know today as TVF.
Know from. In February 2012, he along with his partner released his first video Roadies which was made on the popular TV reality show Roadies. This video became very viral and from here the path to success started opening for TVF. And friends, after making many viral videos like this, in 2014, Arora released her first web series in India which was named Permanent Roommates. Yes friends, it is TVF which gave the concept of web series to India for the first time. Permanent Roommates received more than 50 million views and was liked a lot by the people.
After this, in 2015, Arora created the Pitchers web series, which became the first Indian web series to make it to the list of IMDb’s top two fifty shows. Now friends, if we talk about today, TVF is a well-known name and its shows are watched in every house. In its web series, there is neither any expensive set, nor any superstar actor cast, nor any expensive VFX or fancy stories. Despite this, today all the web series of TVF are superhit and their dialogues become popular among the people.
So what is the reason? On one hand even the high budget films of Bollywood are getting defeated while on the other hand TVF is giving back to back superhit web series. So friends, its first region is relativity. Actually TVF shows are very relatable to our real life. Such moments are shown in these which make you feel that I too do this work. Like leaving the bed in the morning after being scolded by your mother and always quarreling with your siblings. Seeing all this, somewhere we start feeling that what is happening in the series is our story. If you have seen his Aspirants series, then you can understand how deeply he expresses the character.
This condition is actually shown in it, the story of three friends, who are taking coaching in Rajendra Nagar area of Delhi with the dream of passing UPSC. The three friends struggle in their room, worry about their exams and serve the country. Every story has been expressed in such a wonderful way that even real life aspirants can relate to it and feel it is their own story. Apart from this, if you have grown up in the city and sometimes have to go to the village during holidays, then you can relate to the life of Panchayat Secretary i.e. Abhishek Tripathi.
What difficulties one faces in adjusting with the village people, how the electricity goes out during summer nights and mosquitoes make it difficult to sleep. After watching the Panchayat series, some people even say that it seems as if the story of their own Gram Panchayat has been leaked. And friends, from this only you can guess how much people are able to relate to the TVF series. The special thing about TVF is that they capture everyday situations and try to add real emotions.
And this is what Bollywood people fail to add to their films. In Bollywood, such unrealistic stories are shown that the audience is forced to wonder whether such a society even adjusts? Like, after passing the exam, a pool party is enjoyed with friends, students have six pack abs and students enter the luxury campus by car and girls surround them like bees. Whereas a real life student has so much burden of studies that he can see six pack abs only in his dreams.
If we get good marks in exams, we celebrate by eating street food with friends or if we achieve something big, we distribute sweets among two or four houses in the neighborhood. Apart from this, every web series of TVF represents the face of different states and regions of the Indian society and their dialogues or codes are so perfect that they become tongue-in-cheek even after listening to them once. Also, memes made on these can be seen on social media for years.
Friends, in a similar way, the second mantra of TVF’s success is fresh talent. If you have seen any web series of TVF, then you would not be unaware that they prefer to give a chance to an unknown artist rather than casting any superstar. And it is not just about actors but they also give opportunities to fresh writers and directors. However, after working with this production house, he becomes so famous that he no longer needs any identity. For example, you must remember Prahlad Chacha of Panchayat, whose real name is Faizal Malik.
Faizal Malik’s real life is no less than a film story because his family life was full of sorrows. Firstly, there was financial crunch and on top of that, the brother died of kidney failure. Before he could come out of this shock, his sister committed suicide after failing in the exam and it took a long time for Faizal to forget these sorrows and return to normal life. Going through these struggles, he turned his attention towards the film industry, but getting work here was not easy. He tried at many places, but it did not work out anywhere.
However, after some time, he met famous musical composer and singer Kailash Kher, who got Faizal the job of editor in Sahara Channel. But friends, our Prahlad uncle’s luck shone when he played the role of a cop in Gangs of Wasseypur. His screen time in this web series was very less but Faizal’s strong acting made everyone admire him and later on, no one can forget the role of Prahlad he played in Panchayat. However, friends, let us now talk about that actor who became famous among the people with a single scene.
Now, you might have seen many memes of Vinod on the internet, but today we are going to tell the real struggle of Vinod which is completely beyond any film story. Actually his name is Ashok Pathak who used to work with his uncle in selling cotton door to door in the hot afternoons. He had no connection whatsoever with studies, hence due to the insistence of his parents, he took admission but later started doing theatre. His acting was very strong.
That’s why some people started saying, you should go to Mumbai and with the encouragement of friends, after arranging ₹ 40,000, he went to the city of dreams Mumbai and he first got a small role in the movie Highway. After this, Ashok Pathak kept playing similar characters in his real life, sometimes as a street vendor, sometimes as a guard and sometimes as a driver. But sometimes TVF noticed him and he was cast for Panchayat.
Our Vinod became so famous in the first season of Panchayat that his screen time was increased in the second and third seasons and this was the reason that many more good offers started coming to him. Recently, in 2014, Ashok Pathak was also called to Cannes City, France. Where his movie System Midnight was screened which also stars Radhika Apte and people liked the screening of this movie so much that he got a standing ovation for 10 minutes.
And friends, similar struggle has been faced by Durgesh Kumar whom you have seen as Bhushan in the Panchayat. Even after playing many small roles in films like Sultan, Highway and Freaky Ali, he could not get the recognition that the offers would automatically come to him. There were many occasions when he had to fall at the feet of the casting director for a role. Seeing all this, his friends also got worried as to what he was doing. But you know that money is needed to live life and only he knows to what extent a person can go to get it.
There are many such writers or actors who have seen hundreds of rejections but only TVF has appreciated their talent and from here many such faces have become popular which no one knew before. And friends, in a similar way, another big secret of TVF’s success is humor. A well-written scene in which humor comes from natural moments is what the audience enjoys the most. Like Amma ji acting sick in Panchayat Season 3 or Manju Devi fighting with Kranti Devi over slippers.
There are countless scenes like these in which the audience burst out laughing. There is neither any vulgarity nor any complicated jokes in it. Just the authenticity of the characters, their natural dialogues and small expressions all together create such an environment that people automatically start laughing. TVF adds humor in its series in such a perfect way that people are forced to laugh even in serious situations. This is the reason that after the release of any of their series, its small clips become very viral.
So friends, the next reason for TVF’s success is its target audience. Actually, TVF most targets people in the age group of 18 to 35 who consume more than three hours of video content on an average daily. Now TVF knows very well how to keep this audience engaged. That is why he makes some episodes of many series available for free on YouTube for everyone. But it uploads some episodes of the final on its OTT app TVF Play so that people get curious to know the next part of the story and people move to their platform.
And yes, his team includes many multi-talented people who sometimes work as writers and sometimes even become actors when needed. Like the director of Panchayat is Deepak Kumar Mishra who will also be seen playing this character.
A tube light here and another tube light here. Here it will feel as if you are entering a tube light house. Put it on. Install tubelight green, install white. Apply it as you want, apply it green. Don’t you think white would look better?
So friends, in the end I just want to say that the big production houses of Bollywood are making a mistake in understanding that the audience does not fall in the luxury college shown in Karan Johar’s films but in a college with a basic structure where no So there is a fancy pool and neither do we go to college in a luxury car. Our college life is like Scooty’s, which only TVF has understood and that is why the audience is able to relate to their stories. Due to which every web series of TVF leaves a deep impression in the minds of people.
Anyway, see you again with the powerful explanation of the Success Story.
